Panthers vs Bulldogs Preview and Prediction

Rampaging competition leaders Penrith are almost certainly set for their 12th consecutive victory to start the season when they square off against the embattled Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers are absolutely flying at the moment and things could get ugly for the Bulldogs if they don’t turn up ready for battle, especially when you consider they haven’t scored a point against Penrith in their last two meetings.

Penrith have been almost perfect in 2021 – they’ve won all 11 matches, scoring 48 points or more in their last three wins over the Sharks, Titans and Rabbitohs.

Ivan Cleary’s side are averaging 33 points per game this season, while their defence has been tremendous, conceding just 84 points in their 11 matches.

Penrith’s young side are fearless and are having a ball out there at the moment – which spells danger for the Bulldogs.

Canterbury simply haven’t been able to get going this season under Trent Barrett, despite establishing arguably a better roster for 2021 than the past couple of years.

The Bulldogs went three straight games without registering a single point earlier this season, but have improved slightly over the last month, scoring their first win over the Sharks and getting to double digits in their last four defeats to the Eels, Dragons, Raiders and Titans.

Last week was the first time Canterbury made it to 20 points for the season, so at least they bring a tiny bit of momentum coming into this clash.

However, the Dogs need a miracle to win this clash. Not since 2014 has Sportsbet seen an odds differential as big as this one, with the Bulldogs paying $21 to win H2H and +35.5 at the line.

As such, it’s tough to find some value. Penrith will win, but I do have my doubts whether the game will exceed 50.5 points – the Panthers obviously won’t have trouble scoring, but the Dogs will struggle to contribute to the points total if Penrith maintain their strong defence.

Panthers 13+ and under 50.5 points appears the best bet here.
