Warriors vs Raiders Preview & Prediction

The Roosters will be out to make a statement against the last-placed Bulldogs when the two sides lock horns on Saturday night at Accor Stadium.

Touted by many as premiership favourites at the start of the season, the Roosters have so far failed to deliver and are still light years behind the likes of Penrith and Melbourne.

Trent Robinson’s side have a 4-3 record for the season and are sitting in sixth spot on the ladder. So far, the Roosters have been unable to generate any sort of momentum.

It appeared as if a long winning run was on the cards after three straight victories over the Cowboys, Broncos and Warriors, with games against the Dragons and Bulldogs to come.

However, the Roosters were stunned by an inspired Dragons side on Anzac Day, going down 14-12 at the SCG, meaning they now have to start from scratch again.

Fortunately for the Roosters, they are coming up against the competition’s resident battlers on Saturday night.

It’s once again looking like a nightmare season for the Bulldogs, who are anchored to the bottom of the ladder after seven rounds and favourites to pick up a consecutive wooden spoon.

Despite a big off-season recruitment drive that lured Matt Burton, Josh Addo-Carr and Tevita Pangai Jr. among others to the club, the Bulldogs don’t look any better than previous years.

Attack is still a massive issue and that won’t change until they find a halfback to lead the side around – whether that man is Kyle Flanagan remains to be seen.

Canterbury have lost six straight since an opening round win over the Cowboys and should have snapped their streak when they led the Broncos last week, but instead they capitulated to a 34-14 defeat.

VERDICT:

Phil Gould took over a training session during the week for the Dogs and by all accounts gave the playing group a blast while coach Trent Barrett watched on from the sidelines.

Whether that lights a fire remains to be seen, but you can’t possibly back Canterbury in their current state. The Roosters are far from their best, but it will click for them eventually and this could be the perfect game for the tricolours to regain their mojo (Best over 39.5 total points odds $1.91 with bet365.)
