Sharks vs Bulldogs Preview and Prediction

After suffering consecutive late-game defeats in their last two matches, Cronulla will be confident of returning to the winners circle when they host the embattled Bulldogs on Saturday night.

The Sharks were in winning positions in the final 10 minutes against the Roosters and Knights over the last fortnight, only to lose both games in the dying stages.

Instead of being firmly entrenched in the top eight, the Sharks are now languishing in the bottom half of the table. Those two results continued the remarkable trend of the H2H favourite now winning 19 of the last 20 matches involving Cronulla.

Fortunately for the Sharks, they now take on the worst team in the competition and are $1.15 to prevail. In a further boost, Cronulla welcome back star playmaker Shaun Johnson from injury and the Kiwi couldn’t have hoped for a better match to ease his way back.

Canterbury are in absolute shambles and don’t look like turning things around anytime soon. They are the only winless side after six rounds and have conceded an average of 34 points per game.

The Bulldogs went scoreless for three straight games earlier this season and if their attack doesn’t improve considerable soon, they are on track to equal their club record of 11 consecutive defeats (currently on seven).

Ironically, the Bulldogs looked their most dangerous for the season last week when they were reduced to 12 men against the Cowboys, scoring a pair of tries before going down 30-18.

Recent matches between these sides have been extremely close, but I’m prepared to go against the stats here. This Bulldogs side is as poor as we’ve seen in recent memory and they’ve lost six of their last seven by 13+ margins. I’m expecting the Sharks to rack up another big score on Saturday night.

Shaun Johnson makes his return from injury for the Sharks and joins the bench, while Josh Dugan comes back into the centres.

Jack Hetherington is suspended for the Bulldogs after being sent off against the Cowboys, with Dylan Napa and Luke Thompson the new starting props.
