Cronulla Sharks vs Canterbury Bulldogs Preview & Prediction
After producing an upset win in Round 1, the Sharks will be confident of notching up another victory when they welcome the Bulldogs to PointsBet Stadium on Friday night.
We backed the Sharks at $2.50 to take care of the Warriors across the ditch last week, with Craig Fitzgibbon’s side coming from behind to register a gutsy 16-12 win.
Cronulla didn’t concede a try after the 13th minute and held on after Sia Talakai barged over with 22 minutes remaining.
The Sharks copped some criticism last season (rightly so) for being unable to beat top eight sides, so taking the scalp of last year’s preliminary finalists is a great start to 2024.
Meanwhile, it was more of the same frustration for Bulldogs fans as their team went down 26-8 to the Eels in their opener.
Canterbury’s attack was again non-existent, while they didn’t do themselves any favours with too many errors and penalties meaning the Eels were camped inside their half for the majority of the game.
For a team with the likes of Matt Burton, Stephen Crichton, Viliame Kikau and Josh Addo-Carr down the left edge, the Dogs have simply got to figure out how to get their attacking going.
Addo-Carr is out for the next few weeks after injuring his shoulder against the Eels, with Connor Tracey joining the backline for his club debut against his former team.
VERDICT:
The Bulldogs’ struggle to score points looks set to continue into the early rounds of 2024, so back the Sharks to get the job done at home.
Cronulla have covered a -8.5 line in their last five wins over the Dogs and the margin could easily be even bigger on Friday night (Best Sharks -8.5 line odds $1.90 with Dabble.)
