South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Cronulla Sharks Preview & Prediction
It’s only Round 6, but it’s well and truly panic stations for the Rabbitohs as they prepare to face the fourth-placed Sharks on Saturday night.
South Sydney endured a nightmare end to the 2023 season and they’ve started 2024 in similar fashion, winning just one of their five games.
Overall, the Rabbitohs have won just five of their last 18 games dating back to last season, while they are conceding an average of 32 points per game in 2024.
There’s clearly discontent amongst the playing group and coach Jason Demetriou, who – if you believe the rumours – is on borrowed time.
Latrell Mitchell doesn’t want to be there at the moment and he won’t be for this game after picking up a suspension from last week’s embarrassing 34-4 demolition at the hands of the Warriors. Damien Cook has also been dropped.
Meanwhile, the Sharks are rolling along nicely, winning three of their four games and they’re well-rested after enjoying the bye last week.
Cronulla came back from 0-18 down to beat the Raiders 36-22 in their last outing before the bye, but before that they were humbled 32-6 by the Tigers. While the Sharks are sitting pretty in fourth, I don’t think they are a top four side at the moment.
VERDICT:
Nevertheless, most reserve grade teams could beat the Rabbitohs at the moment. There’s no intensity or commitment to the cause at Redfern right now and conceding an average of 32 points per game is atrocious.
Sharks should roll comfortably here (Best Sharks by 6.5 points odds $1.67 with Dabble.)
