Sharks vs Wests Tigers Preview & Prediction

The Sharks will be confident of continuing their winning run of form to begin the season when they entertain the embattled Tigers on Sunday afternoon at PointsBet Stadium.

After an opening round loss to the Raiders, the Sharks have been on fire and head into this encounter on a three-match winning streak.

It started with a last-minute 18-16 victory over the Eels, with star recruit Nicho Hynes kicking the match-winning conversion after the siren, while they’ve backed that up with big wins over the Dragons (36-12) and Knights (18-0).

Hynes and Moylan have combined superbly in the halves, while Cronulla’s defence has been great over the last fortnight, conceding a total of 12 points.

That doesn’t bode well for the Tigers, who failed to score a try in their heartbreaking loss to the Titans last week, with the club now starting a season 0-4 for the first time since 2007.

To be fair to the Tigers, they’ve been right in three of their four games this season, leading Melbourne in the opening round, while they’ve lost by four points or less to the Warriors and Titans.

If a few things had gone their way, or they had better leadership at the crucial stages, we could be talking about the Tigers sitting comfortably in the top eight heading into Round 5.

Instead, their confidence is shot and they are staring down the barrel of five straight defeats to open the season.

VERDICT:

Cronulla are on fire and now they face the bottom-placed team, who failed to score a try last week.

The Sharks have won seven of the last eight meetings and put 50 points on the Tigers in their last clash in 2021. All signs point to another big victory on Sunday afternoon in the Shire (Best Sharks 13+ odds $1.60 with bet365.)
