Wests Tigers vs Sharks Preview and Prediction

The Tigers and Sharks do battle in a match that could potentially have top eight implications on Saturday afternoon in Rockhampton.

The equation is simple – whoever wins will keep their finals chances alive, but the loser will almost certainly start making plans for next year.

Cronulla have the best points differential out of those teams fighting for the seventh and eighth positions, but they have stumbled in recent weeks, coming into this match on a three-match losing streak.

Shaun Johnson going down with injury and subsequently leaving the club hasn’t helped their chances, with the Sharks losing their last two matches against fellow finals contenders the Knights and Warriors by just two points, scoring only 16 and 14 points themselves.

Meanwhile, the Tigers have the worst points differential out of any side jostling for the top eight and will almost certainly need to win their three remaining games to sneak into the finals.

Michael Maguire’s side will be going for three wins in a row for the first time since 2018 after beating the lowly Bulldogs and Cowboys over the last fortnight.

However, this is a big step up in class and as we know, the Tigers have trouble stringing wins together at the best of times – let alone when the pressure of finals footy for the first time since 2011 is well and truly on.

VERDICT:

It’s a tough match to predict – the Sharks look far too short for their current form, while the Tigers are still erratic and haven’t won three games in a row in almost three years.

We’ll be focusing on the total points market as our best bet – the last five games between these teams have produced under 50 points, while the Tigers have seen under 50 in their last three matches. The Sharks have also seen under 34 points in their last two, so signs point to another low-scoring game here (Best Under 50 points odds $1.90 with Sportsbet).
