Sharks vs Tigers Tips, Preview and Prediction
Cronulla will be aiming to register their first win of the season, but they have endured a turbulent lead-up to the resumption of the 2020 NRL season.
Indeed, the Sharks were rocked by the news that rising teenage star Bronson Xerri – who many were predicting to play Origin within the next couple of seasons – failed an ASADA drugs test last November and could be suspended for up to four years.
After dealing with the peptide saga a few years ago, it’s the last scandal the Sharks would have wanted heading into this encounter.
However, Cronulla do boast a great record against the Tigers, winning their last six encounters. The Sharks’ grinding style of football and tough defence usually frustrates the Tigers, who like to throw the ball around and play an expansive game – something they can’t do in this match-up.
The Tigers have received a boost from the enforced break, with co-captain Moses Mbye and halfback Luke Brooks coming back into the side from injury.
With one win and a loss to start the season, the Tigers will need to be on top of their game to handle a Sharks team they traditionally struggle against.
The Xerri scandal is an unwanted distraction, but I think Cronulla are too strong in the forwards here, and if they can play their usual style and keep hold of the ball, they should be too classy for the erratic Tigers.
Sharks vs Tigers Teams
Matt Moylan has been named in the reserves and is a chance of forcing his way into Cronulla’s starting side, while Brition Nikora has returned from a shoulder injury, pushing Billy Magoulias to the reserves.
Moses Mbye and Luke Brooks are big ins for the Tigers, while Adam Doueihi shifts to fullback in a reshuffled backline in the absence of Corey Thompson.
New signing Harry Grant starts at hooker.
