Raiders vs Titans Preview & Prediction

An intriguing game awaits in the nation’s capital on Saturday night as the Raiders play host to the Titans at GIO Stadium.

Canberra registered a solid 24-19 win over the Sharks at home in the opening round, but they were terrible last week up in Townsville against the Cowboys, going down 26-6.

The Raiders had just 44 per cent of the ball and completed at 56 per cent. Those numbers simply won’t get you close to winning NRL games.

It was a concerting performance for Ricky Stuart’s side, especially with the news Josh Hodgson has been ruled out for the season with an ACL injury, also signalling an end to his time at Canberra.

With Jamal Fogarty also out for an extended period, the Raiders have lost their No. 7 and No. 9 – arguably the two most important positions. Not ideal after just two rounds.

Meanwhile, the Titans are still searching for consistency and better defence after falling narrowly to the Eels and edging out the Warriors in their first two games.

Gold Coast can be absolutely electric in attack and match it with the best in the NRL in that regard, but they need to start backing it up with more defensive resolve. If they can, the Titans will be challenging for the top eight.

The Titans did show some resolve last week, keeping the Warriors scoreless in the second half to prevail 20-18. Wingers Greg Marzhew and Philipp Sami have been impressive, with the pair running for a combined 431 metres against the Warriors.

VERDICT:

It’s a tough game to call, but based on last week’s performances, the Titans are decent value as underdogs.

Gold Coast absolutely thumped the Raiders 44-6 at GIO Stadium last season, while Canberra were poor last week and have lost their halfback and hooker. Back the Titans to pull off an upset on the road (Best Titans win H2H odds $2.25 with bet365.)
