Knights vs Warriors Preview and Prediction

Languishing at the wrong end of the ladder after 14 rounds, both the Knights and Warriors are desperate for the win when they collide on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams have lost four of their last five matches and have no momentum heading into this encounter – although the Knights do welcome back key stars Mitchell Pearce and Kalyn Ponga.

Newcastle have struggled significantly without their most influential attacking players this season and their return will provide them with a big boost.

The Knights have conceded 36 points or more in four of their last five defeats, so needless to say, defence needs major improvement.

The Warriors are also poor in defence, leaking 29 points or more in their last five defeats. Furthermore, they’ve conceded 169 points in their last five games. That’s not good enough if you want to challenge for the top eight.

Inconsistency continues to plague the Warriors – they’ve failed to win back-to-back games this season and were comprehensively outplayed by the Storm last week.

VERDICT:

Neither team breeds confidence heading into this clash, but we think the Knights have the edge at home if Ponga and Pearce do indeed take the field.

The favourite has won the last five meetings between the teams at McDonald Jones Stadium, and with both teams leaking points all over the place, we can expect a high-scoring affair (best Knights win & over 49.5 points odds $2.88 with Sportsbet).

Knights vs Warriors Teams

Ponga and Pearce have been named for the Knights, but both will have to pass late fitness tests to play this clash, while Bradman Best is out for the next two months with an ankle injury. David Klemmer also returns from suspension on the bench.

Reece Walsh is back from suspension for the Warriors at fullback, but they’ve lost halfback Chanel Harris-Tavita to a season-ending pectoral injury.
