Bulldogs vs Knights Preview and Prediction

Newcastle will be looking to cement their spot in the top eight for another week when they meet the struggling Bulldogs on Saturday at Cbus Super Stadium.

The Knights hit a rough patch in the middle of the season after Mitch Pearce and Kalyn Ponga were sidelined due to injury, but with their two main attacking weapons back, they’ve gone on a three-match winning streak to surge up to seventh on the ladder.

With a poor points differential compared to the other sides battling for a top eight spot, it’s imperative the Knights keep winning.

Currently two points ahead of the Titans in eighth and a further four points ahead of four teams on 18 points, the Knights have a great opportunity to create some breathing room if they can beat the Dogs with two rounds remaining.

Newcastle haven’t quite hit their stride though, with their three wins over the Raiders, Broncos and Sharks all coming by 1-12 margins, so Adam O’Brien will be keen for his side to make a statement here.

Canterbury are almost certainties to pick up the wooden spoon after another nightmare season.

Trent Barrett’s side come into this encounter on the back of an eight-match losing steak and 13-game losing run in Queensland. The Bulldogs have lost 19 of their 21 games this season and have only won five of 41 dating back to last season.

The Bulldogs are once again struggling to score points, amassing just 32 in their last three games combined.

VERDICT:

As expected, there’s not much value in backing the Knights, but we can find some value in the total points market.

The Bulldogs and Knights rank in the bottom two spots for points scored in 2021, while their last 12 meetings have averaged just 36 points. Taking the Knights to win and under 50 points looks like the best bet here (Best Knights win & Under 50 Points odds $2.44 with Ladbrokes).
