Bulldogs vs Knights Preview & Prediction

Two teams in need of a bit of a magic launch this weekend’s footy festivities up in Brisbane when the Bulldogs and Knights lock horns on Friday night.

It’s been a nightmare campaign for both teams so far, with the Bulldogs and Knights sitting in 15th and 16th positions on the ladder with just two wins from their opening nine games.

Canterbury were always going to take some time to gel with all of their new recruits, but it’s safe to say the improvement hasn’t been good enough for the money spent.

The Bulldogs are still struggling significantly in attack and until they put together a quality spine and find a genuine halfback, it’s going to continue in that fashion.

Trent Barrett’s side may have defeated the Roosters two weeks ago, but they needed a barge over from dummy half and an intercept from Josh Addo Carr to score two tries, while they barely threatened in a disappointing 14-4 loss to the Raiders last week.

The reality is, they don’t have enough points in them to win enough matches at this level to be competitive.

Meanwhile, scoring points is also an issue for the Knights, who have failed to score a single try in two of their last three games.

Newcastle started the season on fire with wins over the Roosters and Tigers, but after Mitch Barnett was sent off against the Panthers in Round 3 it all went pear-shaped, with the club now on a seven-game losing streak.

The Knights produced a better performance last week to lead the third-placed Cowboys 16-12 at half-time, but they conceded 24 unanswered points in the second half to fall to another heavy defeat.

Barnett makes his return from a six-game suspension for this clash in a boost for the Knights, while halfback Adam Clune also returns from a knee injury.

VERDICT:

Neither of these teams inspires much confidence, but the value certainly lies with the Knights as underdogs.

Canterbury haven’t been a betting favourite since 2020 and there’s no way you can back them with any sort of conviction against any side.

With both teams struggling to score points and ranked in the bottom two for tries scored, we’re backing a low-scoring affair as our best bet, with a little extra something on the Knights to prevail as underdogs (Best Under 34.5 total points odds $1.87 with bet365.)
