Storm vs Knights Preview and Prediction

Reigning premiers Melbourne attempt to extend their lead at the top of the ladder when they host Newcastle at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

The Storm have been on an absolute rampage over the last few months and come into this encounter on the back of a sizzling 13-match winning streak.

Twelve of those victories have been by 13+ margins, while they’ve also scored 40 or more points in nine. Those are some ridiculous numbers.

Additionally, Melbourne are showing no signs of slowing down, with Craig Bellamy’s side scoring 154 points in their last three victories.

Melbourne’s last outing resulted in a 46-0 whitewash of the Roosters – which followed a 66-16 mauling of the Tigers. The Storm couldn’t be more dominant if they tried, but they could face a tough test in this clash.

Newcastle were woeful without Mitchell Pearce and Kalyn Ponga, but with their two star attacking weapons back from injury, they look a good chance to chase down a finals spot.

The Knights have won their last two games against the Warriors by a combined score of 48-6, but they desperately need to improve their away form if they are to make a genuine impact for the remainder of the season.

Indeed, the Knights have lost eight consecutive games outside of NSW dating back to June 19, while they haven’t defeated the Storm since 2015.

VERDICT:

While the Knights are certainly on the improve, they will still need a minor miracle to upset the Storm at AAMI Park – and there’s no guarantee that Ponga will back up after Origin.

Melbourne are flying and operating at the peak of their powers – we’ll be backing them home in another game featuring plenty of points (Best Storm win & over 48.5 points odds $2.00 with Sportsbet).

Storm vs Knights Teams

Cameron Munster, Josh Addo-Carr, Dale Finucane, Felise Kaufusi and Christian Welch have been named to back up after Origin for Melbourne.

Newcastle welcome back some big names in Tyson Frizell and Daniel Safiiti from injury, pushing Mitch Barnett and Sauaso Sue out of the squad.
