Newcastle Knights vs Melbourne Storm Preview & Prediction

The undefeated Storm take on the 0-2 Knights to conclude NRL Round 3 action on Sunday night at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Both sides experienced epic finishes but contrasting emotions to their respective Round 2 games last week, with Xavier Coates scoring a miracle match-winning try in the final seconds to secure the Storm a memorable victory over the Warriors.

Melbourne trailed the Warriors by eight points with three minutes remaining, but Coates’ acrobats on the wing means they moved to 2-0 ahead of this game.

The win came at a cost however, with halfback Jahrome Hughes copping a suspension, meaning he joins Cameron Munster on the sidelines for this game. Tyran Wishart and Jonah Pezet make up an inexperienced halves combination for this clash.

Meanwhile, the Knights never trailed the Cowboys until they a Chad Townsend field goal in golden point saw them suffer a 21-20 defeat up north.

Following their disappointing home loss to the Raiders in their season opener, the Knights desperately need a win to kick-start their season.

Jackson Hastings has been dropped, with Jack Cogger coming into the halves, while Jayden Brailey’s return is a big boost for the hosts.

VERDICT:

Very tough game to call. Melbourne with a full-strength team would be a no-brainer, but Munster, Hughes, Welch and Asofa-Solomona all out is big.

The Knights lifted last week and at home, they should have the slight edge. Can’t see many points being scored with four fringe halves starting, so taking the Knights with a +7.5 start & Under 50.5 points as our best bet (Best Knights +7.5 line & Under 50.5 total points odds $1.70 with Dabble.)
