Dragons vs Knights Preview & Prediction

The Dragons and Knights are both aiming to snap their respective losing streaks when they meet at WIN Stadium on Easter Sunday.

It’s been a poor start to the season for the Dragons, with their only win coming against the Warriors back in Round 1, meaning they come into this encounter on a four-match losing streak.

If you go back to last year, the Dragons have now lost 12 of their last 13 games and coach Anthony Griffin has a lot of work to do if his side are going to challenge for the top eight this season.

The Dragons pushed the Panthers in a 20-16 defeat back in Round 2, but since then they’ve been comprehensively beaten by the Sharks, Eels and Rabbitohs.

Meanwhile, the Knights started the season on fire with big 13+ wins over the Roosters and Tigers, but ever since Mitch Barnett got sent off while Newcastle were matching it with the Panthers, it’s been rough going.

Indeed, the Knights went on to lose that game 38-20 and have only managed to score on try since, falling 18-0 to the Sharks and 30-6 to the Sea Eagles.

To be fair, the Knights could have easily defeated Manly last week and were unlucky to have a try overturned in the second half that would have put them 12-6 in front.

The Knights have offered more this season, but they need Kalyn Ponga to stand up, with the fullback seemingly distracted by the ongoing negotiations with Wayne Bennett and the Dolphins.

VERDICT:

We can’t back the Dragons home as favourites here. They’ve lost 12 of their last 13 and are on a four-game losing streak this season. No thanks.

Newcastle were superb to start the season, so if they can regain that form, they are the better team. We’ll take the Knights as underdogs (Best Knights win H2H odds $2.25 with Ladbrokes.)
