Knights vs Dragons Preview and Prediction
The Knights and Dragons will each be targeting their third win of the season and a potential spot in the top four when they square off at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
St George Illawarra were tipped by many to be wooden spooners this season, but they’ve put together a very solid start to the season and bring a two-match winning streak into this clash after beating the Cowboys 25-12 and Sea Eagles 38-12.
I was tempted to back the Dragons as outsiders in this one, but two things are holding me back. Firstly, those two wins were over arguably the weakest sides in the competition.
Secondly, the Dragons are without Ben Hunt and Jack Bird, who have been two of their best players across the first three rounds.
Newcastle also haven’t come up against the strongest of opposition so far in 2021, defeating the Bulldogs and Warriors before going down by four points to the Tigers last week.
However, at home – where they’ve won six of their last seven games – I’ve got to side with the Knights.
Newcastle have won their last two games against the Dragons, scoring 42 and 45 points in both of those victories.
With the Dragons seeing their last seven matches go over the total points line, we can expect another high-scoring showdown in the Hunter – but it’s the Knights that hold the advantage for me.
Knights vs Dragons Teams
Blake Green has been named on the interchange for the Knights for the first time this season, but Bradman Best is out injured, with Starford To’a coming onto the wing.
Adam Clune is set to replace Ben Hunt in the halves for the Dragons, while Brayden Wiliame comes in for the suspended Jack Bird.
