Wests Tigers vs Knights Preview & Prediction

It’s not exactly a blockbuster clash to end the weekend’s action, but it’s still an important game for the Tigers and Knights as both sides look to avoid the wooden spoon.

Even though the Tigers are two points behind Newcastle on the ladder, they are the team with all the momentum heading into this encounter.

After being denied a win against the Cowboys up in Townsville in controversial circumstances, the Tigers galvanised last week to upset the Broncos at Suncorp in their best performance of the season.

That win lifted the Tigers off the bottom of the ladder and now they have the chance to leapfrog the embattled Knights if they can claim another two points in front of their home fans in Campbelltown.

The Tigers will have to do it without Jackson Hastings, who suffered a season-ending injury in the win over the Broncos.

Meanwhile, the Knights are a club in shambles, with pressure increasing on coach Adam O’Brien, with his team losing 14 of their last 17 games.

Newcastle have conceded 40+ points in three of their last four defeats and were humbled by the Bulldogs in front of their own fans last week.

Kalyn Ponga is out for the rest of the season with concussion issues and the Knights don’t look like turning things around, with the club ranked last in both attack and defence in 2022.

VERDICT:

It’s a fantastic chance for the Tigers to register back-to-back wins and to put some breathing space between themselves and the wooden spoon.

Adam Doueihi has been excellent at five-eighth, crossing for two tries in three games in that position, and he will be the main main for the Tigers in Hastings’ absence.

The Knights are in woeful form and we can’t see them improving with nothing to play for in Campbelltown (Best Tigers -5.5 line odds $1.75 with bet365.)
