North Queensland Cowboys vs Cronulla Sharks Preview & Prediction
We’ve got a blockbuster showdown in prospect to kick off Round 25 as the Cowboys and Sharks square off with a finals spot potentially on the line.
The Cowboys are currently sitting ninth on the ladder following back-to-back defeats to the Titans and Broncos before last week’s bye.
With a Round 27 clash with the Panthers looming, the Cowboys can’t afford to drop this game. North Queensland were the form team in the competition not so long ago, winning six matches on the trot over the likes of the Panthers, Rabbitohs and Storm.
However, their momentum has halted in recent weeks and now they must contend with a Sharks side who are beginning to regain their mojo.
Cronulla looked in strife after three straight defeats against the Warriors, Sea Eagles and Panthers, but they’ve bounced back strongly with back-to-back victories over the Rabbitohs and Titans.
The Sharks have moved into fifth on the ladder, but their season could still go either way – they are two points outside the top four, but also the same amount inside the top eight, so every game remaining is a crucial one.
VERDICT
The Sharks have had the wood over the Cowboys in recent times, winning nine of the last 10 meetings – however, North Queensland prevailed in the game that mattered most in last season’s finals series.
Jeremiah Nanai is a big inclusion for the Cowboys and playing at home also gives them an advantage – they’ve won six of their last seven games in Townsville. Apart from the Rabbitohs last week on neutral territory in Perth, the Sharks haven’t beaten a team currently in the top eight on the road this season.
Will back the Cowboys at home to get the job done and push back into the top eight (Best Cowboys win H2H odds $1.60 with bet365.)
