Cowboys vs Titans Preview and Prediction
An intriguing clash awaits to finish up Round 3 of the NRL on Sunday night when the Cowboys and Titans collide in a Queensland derby up in Townsville.
Gold Coast certainly have the most upside out of all the Queensland teams and are indeed the only team from the state to have won a match across the first two rounds, but I think they are far too short in this clash for a couple of reasons.
Ash Taylor is out injured for this game, leaving the Titans very inexperienced in the halves with Tanah Boyd and Jamal Fogarty.
Additionally, it’s going to take time for this new Titans team to gel – they were uninspiring in their opening round defeat to the Warriors and almost every club is going to beat the Broncos at the moment.
Thirdly, the Titans have a horrible record against the Cowboys in Townsville, failing to win at the venue since 2012.
North Queensland have won 10 of their last 11 matches against Gold Coast and they should be viewing this showdown as a great opportunity to get off the mark in 2021.
The Cowboys were poor in Round 1 against the Panthers, but that was a very tough opener and they did improve in their tight loss to the Dragons last week.
Valentine Holmes crossed for a try and that should give the former Test and Origin star some confident going forward this season.
Obviously the Titans should be winning this, especially with that world class forward pack, but there’s no value in backing them home. The Cowboys have been dominant in this H2H over the last decade and this is a fantastic chance for them to grab a win – and they are very good value to do so.
