Titans vs Cowboys Preview & Prediction

After seeing their six-match winning streak snapped at the hands of Penrith last week, the Cowboys will be determined to get back to winning ways when they come up against the struggling Titans on Thursday night.

North Queensland certainly lost no admirers in their 22-0 loss to the reigning premiers at the foot of the mountains, making over 100 more tackles and producing some superb goal-line defence despite leaking 22 points.

It was always going to be a difficult match for the Cowboys, who were playing their first match in Sydney for the entire season after 12 rounds.

Todd Payten’s side are now coming into a challenging period due to their early-season success, with six players picked for Origin duty – although Murray Taulagi and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow should be released from the Maroons squad to play in this game.

The good news for the Cowboys is they’re facing one of the competition’s battling teams for this clash.

Gold Coast have been hugely disappointing after making the finals last season, losing nine of their 12 games – including their inexplicable collapse against the Broncos last week.

The Titans were leading by 20 points after 50 minutes but were downright embarrassing in the final 30 minutes, conceding 31 unanswered points to go down 35-24.

Tino Fa’aasuamaleaui made a staggering 271 metres from 23 hit-ups, but those numbers still couldn’t propel the Titans to victory. Big Tino is out due to Origin for this clash, while David Fifita will also miss the game through injury.

VERDICT:

The Cowboys have lost various stars to Origin, but they do welcome back Jason Taumalolo and will be confident following their 30-4 dismantling of the Titans earlier this season.

Gold Coast are in shambles right now and have no confidence or direction. They have lost seven of their last eight games and are quickly falling out of finals contention.

North Queensland have scored 30+ points and covered the -5.5 line in their last five victories, so we’ll back them to take care of the struggling Titans once more to kick off Round 13 on Thursday night (Best Cowboys -5.5 line odds $2.00 with Ladbrokes.)
