Knights vs Cowboys Preview and Prediction

It’s a crucial clash for both the Knights and Cowboys as they continue their pursuit of a finals spot when they collide in the Hunter on Saturday night.

North Queensland have certainly been the better team over the last couple of months with six wins from their last 10, but their away form looks like it could catch up to them as the season goes on.

Indeed, the Cowboys have won just one match away from Townsville this season and they don’t have good recent memories of McDonald Jones Stadium, losing four of their last five at the venue.

The Cowboys are also on their first losing streak since Round 4 after suffering back-to-back losses to the Sea Eagles and Sharks.

Meanwhile, the Knights have lost six of their last nine games and face an uphill battle to make the finals, coming into this encounter in 12th position on the ladder.

However, Newcastle welcome back Kalyn Ponga from injury for this showdown, who will slot back into the side alongside Mitchell Pearce, who returned for the club’s last-start 10-6 win over the Warriors.

Newcastle can be a top eight side with Pearce and Ponga fit and firing and fans will be hoping that dynamic duo can find some form in this clash.

VERDICT:

With Pearce and Ponga back, the Knights are a different side and we think they can emerge triumphant here.

The Cowboys have been terrible outside of Townsville this season and the Knights are usually strong at home.

We’re not going to back many points being scored considering Newcastle’s last four matches have gone under the total points line, but the Knights should be claiming the two points here (best Knights -5.5 line odds $1.90 with Ladbrokes)
