Sydney Roosters vs Penrith Panthers Preview & Prediction

It’s a blockbuster showdown to kick off Round 4 as the Roosters and Panthers collide at Allianz Stadium on Thursday night.

Obviously the big news coming into this contest is Nathan Cleary suffering a hamstring injury that will sideline him for up to a month. Scott Sorenson is also out after also going off injured in last week’s victory over the Broncos.

As such, the Roosters have moved into favouritism and it’s hard to argue. Trent Robinson’s side absolutely battered the Rabbitohs last week at this venue by a 48-6 score as Sam Walker, Joey Manu and James Tedesco bagged doubles.

Luke Keary is back from concussion to partner Walker in the halves as the pair look to make a statement against the three-time reigning premiers.

Brad Schneider is the man to replace Cleary at halfback for the Panthers, while Mavrik Geyer makes his NRL debut off the bench.

VERDICT:

Penrith have dominated the Roosters over the last few years, winning the last nine meetings, but Cleary’s absence makes this a tall order.

Cleary was instrumental in the win over Brisbane last week and against a Roosters side that have only leaked 10 points and six points in victories over the Broncos and Rabbitohs this season, it could be tough for the Panthers to find enough points here – especially when you consider they were also held to zero against the Storm in Round 1.
