Penrith Panthers vs Wests Tigers Preview & Prediction

The Panthers will be out for revenge of sorts when they come up against the Tigers at Carrington Park in Bathurst on Saturday.

It was around this time last year that the Tigers produced one of the upsets of the season, edging the Panthers 12-8 for a memorable victory.

However, it was a minor blip on the radar for Penrith, who ultimately went on to win their third premiership on the bounce, while the Tigers slumped to another wooden spoon.

Penrith have experienced a mixed start to 2024, coming into this contest with a 3-2 record and losing Nathan Cleary to injury.

The Panthers suffered a 32-18 loss to Manly in their last outing before the bye and will be keen to turn things around here, while Jarome Luai will line up against his future club.

Meanwhile, the Tigers have been disappointing since taking out the Sharks and Eels in back-to-back weeks, falling short against the Dolphins and Dragons.

Last week’s sold-out home game in Campbelltown against the Dragons was the perfect stage for the Tigers to bounce back, but they were poor in a 24-12 loss.

Boom rookie Lachlan Galvin returns from suspension at halfback and Tigers fans will be hoping he can spark an attack that has failed to fire for a long time now.

VERDICT:

Can’t see the Tigers having enough points in them to trouble the Panthers and their rock-solid defence here. Penrith have had a week to mull over their loss to Manly and will be determined to make a statement, so will back the reigning premiers by 13+ here (Best Panthers 13+ margin odds $1.80 with Dabble.)
