Broncos vs Rabbitohs Preview and Prediction

South Sydney appear to have distanced themselves from heavy defeats to the Panthers and Storm and will be confident of registering their third straight win when they come up against an embattled Broncos side on Thursday night.

The Rabbitohs bounced back from a 56-12 loss to the Panthers by toppling fellow top four side Parramatta 38-20 before taking out the Knights by a 24-10 scoreline.

Wayne Bennett’s side will see their Origin quartet return for this clash, but despite missing those stars, Souths were still far too strong for Newcastle last week.

Souths need considerable improvement when facing the NRL’s heavyweights, but they are doing the job against everyone else. Indeed, the Rabbitohs have only lost to the Panthers and Storm in 2021 and defeated all teams they’ve faced below them on the ladder.

Meanwhile, Broncos fans might have believed their side was turning a corner following their upset win over the Roosters, but they’ve since lost three straight by an average margin of 43 points.

Brisbane conceded 40 points against the Storm, 52 against the Dragons (who just lost to the Bulldogs) and 38 vs the Raiders (who hadn’t won at home since Round 1) last week. That’s not pretty reading and doesn’t bode well for facing a South side who are averaging 26 points per game this season.

Last week’s defeat to Canberra and the Bulldogs beating the Dragons have seen the Broncos slip to equal last on the ladder, all of a sudden making consecutive wooden spoons a grim reality for Kevin Walters’ team.

VERDICT:

As mentioned, Souths have defeated every team they’ve come up against that’s below them on the ladder this season, while they’ve won their last 11 matches when favourites.

Pretty convincing numbers, while the Broncos have been atrocious over the last three weeks. Souths to prevail with plenty of points looks the best bet to kick off Round 15 (Souths win & over 50.5 points best odds $2.10 with Sportsbet)
