Warriors vs Dragons Preview & Prediction

Both the Warriors and Dragons know the importance of getting their respective seasons off to a winning start when they meet on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

After finishing 11th and 12th last season, the Warriors and Dragons are targeting an improved 2022, but they will need big years after they are to mount a serious challenge for the top eight.

The Warriors are starting their third straight season based outside of New Zealand, with the club failing to make the finals the previous two seasons.

It’s looking like another long season for the Kiwi club, but they do welcome back Shaun Johnson to give them some spark in the halves.

However, there does appear to be a lack of quality over the field, and if injuries start to hit, the Warriors’ depth will be tested.

Meanwhile, Anthony Griffin has brought in a host of new signings in an attempt to lift the Dragons up the ladder, with Moses Suli, Aaron Woods, Jaydn Su’A, Moses Mbye, Francis Molo and Jack Gosiewski all named.

St George Illawarra were actually travelling okay for the bulk of last season until the infamous barbecue saw them tumble down the ladder.

There’s immense talent spread out across a young backline that includes Tyrell Sloane, Talatau Amone, Cody Ramsey and Zac Lomax, so if Ben Hunt can play to the best of his ability, the Dragons will be confident of a positive season.

VERDICT:

The Dragons looked solid in the Charity Shield win over Souths and look to have a bit more quality across their side than the Warriors heading into Round 1.

If the forwards can lay a platform and give Hunt some time to get the ball out wide to the talented backs, then the Dragons will fancy their chances against a Warriors side that could be in for a tough year (Best Dragons win H2H odds $1.87 with Ladbrokes.)
