Warriors vs Dragons Preview and Prediction
The Dragons target their fifth consecutive win and look to cement themselves in the top four when they play host to the Warriors on Sunday afternoon.
Predicted by many at the start of the season to miss the eight and come close to picking up the wooden spoon, the Dragons have been sensational to start the year.
Anthony Griffin’s team have bounced back from an opening round loss against Cronulla to win four straight matches over the Cowboys, Sea Eagles, Knights and Eels.
Beating the Cowboys, Manly and a depleted Knights outfit isn’t much to write home about, but conquering premiership contenders Parramatta at Bankwest certainly is.
Matt Dufty continued his electric form to cross for two tries, while Jack Bird also crossed the stripe as he looks to recapture his best football from a few years ago.
The Dragons have also bolstered their squad for the remainder of the season, picking up former Test prop Josh McGuire from the Cowboys. McGuire has been included in the extended squad and is a chance to make his debut on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Warriors haven’t been great to start the season and come into this encounter with three defeats from their last four games. One of their two wins this year also came under fortuitous circumstances, staging a miraculous second half comeback to edge the Raiders.
The Warriors dished up their worst performance of the season last Friday night, going down 13-12 to the previously-winless Sea Eagles. Manly had conceded 26 points or more in their last 12 defeats, but the Warriors could only score two tries in a poor attacking display.
Coming up against a Dragons side that has leaked 13 points or less in their last three games, the Warriors will need considerable improvement if they are to cause the upset.
St George Illawarra are flying and Dufty has a great try-scoring record at home – I’m backing the Dragons to snap a four-game losing run against the Warriors in emphatic fashion on Sunday.
Warriors vs Dragons Teams
The Dragons have named an unchanged 17 from the team that beat Parramatta, but Josh McGuire has been included in the extended squad.
Peta Hiku is back for the Warriors in place of the injured David Fusitu’a, while Bunty Afoa and Jamayne Taunua-Brown return from suspension.
