St George Illawarra Dragons vs New Zealand Warriors Preview & Prediction

The Dragons and Warriors are both aiming for their fourth win of the season when they lock horns at WIN Stadium on Friday night.

It’s already looking like a much-improved season for the Dragons, with Shane Flanagan’s side notching up victories against the Titans, Sea Eagles and Tigers heading into Round 7.

The 20-10 triumph over Manly in Wollongong a few weeks ago was a terrific performance and the Dragons were again impressive in last week’s 24-12 dispatch of the Tigers in Campbelltown.

Zac Lomax has taken his game to another level, but fans were disappointed mid-week with the news he’s signing on with the Eels from next season.

Meanwhile, I’m not all that convinced the Warriors deserve to be $1.44 favourites here.

Yes, the Warriors are four games unbeaten heading into this contest, but apart from a blowout win over the embattled Rabbitohs, they’ve struggled to really stamp their authority on games.

Those five other games have all been decided by eight points or less and I think there’s pressure on the Kiwi club to replicate their stunning and unlikely run to the preliminary finals last season.

The Warriors were fortunate to get a point out of their home clash with Manly last week, with Shaun Johnson’s controversial penalty goal sending the game into golden point, with neither team able to dig out the win.

VERDICT:

The Dragons are still far from reliable, but don’t mind them with a +7.5 start here. Dragons have covered this line in nine of their last 10 home games against the Warriors dating back to 2009, while as mentioned, the Warriors haven’t been blowing teams out off the park for the most park in 2024.

Dragons beat an in-form Manly side 20-12 at this venue a couple of weeks ago and they can certainly make this game a competitive affair on Friday night (Best Dragons +7.5 line odds $1.75 with Dabble.)
