Dragons vs Rabbitohs Preview and Prediction

With just two wins from their last five and outside the eight past the halfway mark of the regular season, both the Dragons and Rabbitohs know how crucial coming out on top in this showdown is.

Souths just simply haven’t been able to get going all season, and just as it looks like they are about to build a bit of positive momentum, they suffer a setback.

Coming into this contest in 10th spot on the ladder following narrow back-to-back defeats to top eight sides Newcastle and Canberra, the Rabbitohs can’t afford to drop any more points, especially against fellow top eight contenders.

A big positive for Souths is their recent match-ups against the Dragons, which has seen them win eight of their last 10, including the last four straight.

There’s no question the Dragons have improved considerably from the start of the season, but they still face a mountainous challenge to make the finals, heading into this encounter in 11th and four points adrift of eighth.

St George Illawarra have been lucky and unlucky in their last two games, winning on the buzzer against the Bulldogs due to an error, while they couldn’t capitalise on a truckload of possession to complete what would have been a memorable comeback against Cronulla last week.

Matt Dufty and Zac Lomax have been brilliant over the last month or so and the Dragons will need them to fire again if they are to overcome the Rabbitohs.

In saying that, I’m backing Souths home. They will have Latrell Mitchell back from suspension and have won the last four meetings between the teams. It should be close, but the Rabbitohs should edge it.

Dragons vs Rabbitohs Teams

Adam Clune and Trent Merrin are both sidelined after both failing HIAs, with Ben Hunt reverting to halfback, Cameron McInnes to hooker and Jackson Ford at lock. Jordan Pereira replaces Jason Saab on the wing, while Tariq Sims returns from suspension.

Latrell Mitchell is back for Souths, with Alex Johnston moving to the wing and Corey Allan dropping out the side. Liam Knight and Patrick Mago also return on the interchange for Jack Johns and Hame Sele.
