Dragons vs Wests Tigers Preview & Prediction

Who would have thought that Dragons vs Tigers could potentially be the match of the round a fortnight ago, but that’s exactly what could happen as the two rejuvenated teams square off at WIN Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Both the Dragons and Tigers were under immense pressure after dismal starts to the season, but what a difference a couple weeks can make.

St George Illawarra snapped a four-match losing streak with back-to-back victories over the Knights and Roosters, prevailing by five points or less in both.

The win over the Knights probably isn’t anything to write home about given Newcastle’s terrible form, but beating the Roosters on Anzac Day is an enormous scalp, with Ben Hunt showing what he can do when he backs himself.

Meanwhile, the Tigers were 0-5 to start the season, with Michael Maguire seemingly on the verge of getting the sack before their two amazing results over the last couple of weeks.

The Tigers have conquered premiership heavyweights Parramatta and South Sydney by one-point margins, Jackson Hastings and Luke Brooks stepping up to slot the match-winning field goals.

Hastings’ shift to halfback has been a master stroke from Maguire, allowing the pressure to come off Brooks, who has flourished in the five-eighth role.

It all sets up what should be a cracking contest between two confident sides on Sunday afternoon.

VERDICT:

We like the Tigers as the underdogs here. They’ve won the last four meetings between the teams and have defeated premiership contenders over the last fortnight.

Hastings has brought a level of calmness and confidence not seen in the Tigers playmaking roles in years. Back the Tigers to keep their momentum going into a third straight win (Best Under 38.5 total points odds $1.91 with bet365.)
