Rabbitohs vs Roosters Preview and Prediction
Another chapter in Rugby League’s longest feud will be written on Friday night when the Rabbitohs and Roosters renew their bitter rivalry.
South Sydney claimed bragging rights in the final round of the regular season last year, crushing their rivals by an extraordinary 60-8 scoreline, with Alex Johnston crossing for five tries and Adam Reynolds booting 10 goals.
However, the Roosters were heavily fatigued at the back-end of last season and you can bet your bottom dollar they will stop at nothing to overturn that result on Friday night – especially after their rampant start to 2021.
The Roosters have been on fire to launch the campaign, scoring 40+ points in their opening two wins over the Sea Eagles and Tigers.
Brett Morris is in career-best try-scoring form, crossing for two hat-tricks in those two victories, while James Tedesco isn’t far behind, scoring five tries.
It’s going to take a special performance to take out the Roosters in their current form, but Souths have plenty of reason to be confident.
The Rabbitohs were solid despite an opening round loss to reigning premiers Melbourne and did what they needed to do to overcome Manly in wet conditions last week. They have one of the strongest rosters in the NRL and the most experienced coach of them all. There’s no reason they shouldn’t be making at least another preliminary final in 2021.
But they might be staring down the barrel of two defeats from their first three matches for the season here. The Roosters have been the best team across the first two rounds and seem hell-bent on making up for their poor end to last season.
If they maintain their current level, I think the Roosters edge this in a tight one.
Rabbitohs vs Roosters Teams
Josh Mansour comes back into the Souths side in place of Jaxon Paulo, who has suffered two concussions over the first two rounds.
The Roosters welcome back star forwards Victor Radley and Angus Crichton in a huge boost for Friday’s showdown.
