South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Sydney Roosters Preview & Prediction
It doesn’t get much bigger than this as the Rabbitohs and Roosters do battle with a top eight ticket potentially on the line for the winner.
For the Rabbitohs, the equation is simple – win and you’re in. For the Roosters, they need to win and hope either one of the Cowboys or Raiders lose. As if this rivalry needed any more sauce on it!
It’s been a disappointing season for both heavyweight clubs – the Bunnies started on fire, but have fallen away miserably over the last few months, losing eight of their last 12 games.
Souths have been engulfed by off-field issues and rumours of unrest between players and staff, while they’ve conceded 30+ points eight times since May.
Latrell Mitchell is also out suspended for the most important game of their season.
Meanwhile, the Roosters still aren’t completely firing on all cylinders, but they are enjoying their most successful part of the season, coming into this clash on a four-game winning streak.
It’s not been the most difficult run of games against the Sea Eagles, Dolphins, Eels and Tigers, but the Roosters have won all games by double-digits, so that’s encouraging.
Big boost for the Roosters too with James Tedesco returning to the side, while Joey Manu has also been named despite picking up a hamstring strain. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is out suspended though, with Angus Crichton joining the side.
VERDICT
There were seven sin bins when these two teams squared off at the end of last season and we can expect another bloodbath here.
Tough to pick a winner, but the Roosters look like good value as slight underdogs. Souths are playing terribly and look disjointed on and off the field. The Roosters meanwhile are playing their best footy of the season on a four-game winning streak and will want revenge from last season. Siding with the Chooks here (Best Roosters win H2H odds $2.00 with bet365.)
