Dragons vs Roosters Preview and Prediction

The Roosters know a win in this clash against the free-falling Dragons will ensure a spot in the top four with just two rounds remaining.

Despite a raft of injuries to key players throughout the season, the Roosters have consistently been entrenched in the top six all season and now they have the chance to secure an all-important top four position.

Trent Robinson’s side have won five of their last six games and are currently two points ahead of Manly in fifth – and the Sea Eagles might be without Tom Trbojevic for their remaining regular season fixtures.

After three consecutive 13+ victories over the Knights, Eels and Cowboys, the Roosters have been involved in some tight affairs over the last fortnight, losing by six points to the Panthers before edging the Broncos 21-20 in the dying stages last week.

Meanwhile, the Dragons’ season is still mathematically alive, but in reality it has gone down the drain on the back of five straight defeats.

Paul Vaughan’s now infamous barbecue has been the catalyst for the Dragons’ demise, with Anthony Griffin’s side going down to the Sea Eagles, Titans, Rabbitohs, Raiders and Panthers over the last month.

All but one of those losses were by 13+ margins, so the Dragons have a lot of work to do in order to make this one competitive.

VERDICT:

Additionally, the Dragons have lost their last six meetings with the Roosters, so it’s extremely unlikely they’ll snap that streak in their current form.

The Roosters don’t look like blowing the Dragons away judging by their last two performances, but they still have enough class to win this one fairly comfortably, while 24 of the last 25 encounters between the sides have produced under 52.5 points (Best Roosters win & Under 52.5 points odds $2.05 with Sportsbet).
