Dragons vs Roosters Preview & Prediction

It’s one of the biggest matches on the NRL calendar as the Roosters and Dragons square off in the traditional Anzac Day clash at the SCG on Monday afternoon.

There’s always high emotion surrounding the Anzac Day games and every player that steps out onto the SCG will be inspired to play their best football.

The form line can largely go out the window – the Roosters are obviously the superior team and deserve to be favourites, but there’s something about this game that usually results in a battle that goes right down to the wire.

Indeed, four of the last five meetings between the teams played on Anzac Day have been decided by a 1-12 margin, while three of those have been decided by two points or less.

The Roosters bring a three-game winning streak into this one, but they haven’t been entirely convincing yet this season, with their last two victories over the Broncos and Warriors coming by four and eight points respectively.

Trent Robinson’s side will certainly be playing finals come the end of the season and the premiership-winning coach knows timing is everything and there’s no point peaking in April, so expect the Roosters to keep gradually improving throughout the year.

Meanwhile, the Dragons do need to start peaking if they are to challenge for the top eight, but they are back in the winners circle after edging out the Knights last week.

That victory snapped a four-game losing run for the Dragons, but they will need considerable improvement to match it with the Roosters here.

VERDICT:

Normally I’d back the Roosters home fairly comfortably, but as mentioned, the form guide goes out the window in these sorts of games.

The Dragons will be well up for this one and confident after tasting victory last week. We’re backing a tight game, with three of the last five Anzac Day games decided by two points or less, but the Roosters’ class and representative stars gives them the edge (Best Dragons +12.5 line odds $1.90 with Neds.)
