Broncos vs Wests Tigers Preview and Prediction

It’s the 14th-placed Wests Tigers up against the 15th-placed Brisbane Broncos as two of the NRL’s cellar-dwellers clash on Sunday afternoon at Suncorp.

These two teams have played out some interesting matches over the last five years. It’s either been blow-outs or thrillers, with the Tigers winning 48-0 in 2020 and the Broncos prevailing 36-0 in 2017, while the Tigers won 19-18 in 2016 and the Broncos emerged triumphant 9-7 in 2018.

It’s anyone’s guess what will happen on Sunday night, but it’s the Broncos who arguably bring more upset into this encounter.

While it’s been another tough season for the Broncos, they do come into this showdown with winning momentum after toppling the Sharks 26-18 in their last outing before the bye.

Brisbane have won three of their last four matches at Suncorp, so that will give them confidence, while the return of Kotoni Staggs is a big boost.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are on a three-match losing streak and have been crushed in all of those losses, going down 40-12 to the Eels, 66-16 to Melbourne and 38-22 to the Rabbitohs.

Defence is a major issue for the Tigers and they don’t look like turning things around anytime soon.

VERDICT:

As mentioned, this is a tough match to call, with both teams capable of flashes of brilliance but also dishing up absolutely woeful football.

Neither side is really to be trusted to win, but we like the total points market – 12 of the last 13 meetings have seen under 51.5 points, so that’s what we’ll be targeting on Sunday (best under 51.5 points odds $1.90 with Sportsbet).
