Canberra Raiders vs Brisbane Broncos Preview & Prediction
An intriguing clash awaits in the nation’s capital on Saturday night as the Raiders play host to the Broncos at GIO Stadium.
Canberra have been pretty average for most of the season, but they’ve mastered the art of grinding out wins and that’s propelled them to sixth spot on the ladder and on the verge of stamping their ticket to the finals.
Indeed, all of the Raiders’ wins this season have been by a 1-12 margin, including last week’s victory over the embattled Bulldogs.
Ricky Stuart’s men don’t have the ability to blow teams off the park, but they love a scrap and can frustrate teams into submission – case in point against the Broncos at Suncorp earlier this season when they emerged 20-14 winners.
Brisbane aren’t showing any signs of last season’s late capitulation and have already secured a top four finish on the back of six straight victories coming into this clash.
Reece Walsh has been in electric form and the club will also be buoyed by Payne Haas signing a new long-term deal with the club.
However, the Broncos will be without halfback Adam Reynolds for this encounter, with Jock Madden slotting in as his replacement.
VERDICT
Tough game to call. Don’t really rate the Raiders, but they are a tough team (especially as underdogs), while not much value with the Broncos without Reynolds on the road.
Still think the Broncos can score plenty of points without Reynolds (Raiders leaked 24 vs Bulldogs last week), so Over 44.5 total points looks the go. Broncos have seen 44+ points in four of their last five and the Raiders have seen 50+ in their last two.
In terms of H2H, the Raiders offer some value at home and at the line (Best Over 44.5 total points odds $1.91 with bet365.)
