NRL Magic Round 2026: In Focus
Eight matches at Suncorp Stadium, the season’s biggest standalone festival of footy, and the round did exactly what Magic Round always does: amplified what was already true. The top tier got bigger, the bottom tier got more obvious, and the middle scrambled. Penrith made it 10 wins from 11 with a 28-6 dismantling of the Dragons, the Warriors backed up their R10 statement with a 30-point thumping of the Broncos, and Cameron Munster’s Melbourne Storm continued their rebound from the R9 slide with a 26-point belting of Parramatta.
The two surprises: Cowboys’ 18-12 win over the Roosters — a result that puts the Tricolours’ top-four hopes in genuine doubt — and the Sea Eagles’ 46-18 blowout of Wests Tigers, which lifts Manly into a four-team chase for top-four protection alongside Penrith.
Panthers Untouchable — 10 from 11, +203 Points Differential
Panthers 28 def. Dragons 6
The clinical Sunday-afternoon close to Magic Round. Penrith led from the eighth minute, scored four tries in the first half, and never let the Dragons within striking distance. Nathan Cleary was busy with two try assists and a try; Isaiah Yeo rolled big numbers in the middle. The Panthers are now 10-1, +203 points differential (349-146), 239% percentage — a “minor premiership profile” that already feels comfortable and a fitness/form curve heading into Origin period that no other team can match. Dragons drop to a record that has them firmly off the finals pace.

Warriors Real Deal — 42-12 Demolition of Broncos
Warriors 42 def. Broncos 12
The most-statement result of the round and a real contender mark for the Warriors. After their R10 30-point thumping of Parramatta, the Auckland-based side went into Magic Round needing to back it up — and they delivered a 30-point Sunday-afternoon belting of the Broncos at Suncorp. Shaun Johnson orchestrated the attack; the Warriors’ edge defence held Brisbane to one try in regulation. The Warriors sit at 8-3 on the table and look the most likely to push Penrith for the minor premiership. Brisbane drop to 5-6, 11th on the ladder with -57 points differential — their season isn’t over but the structural inconsistency keeps coming.

Cowboys Stun the Roosters — Top-Six Push Heats Up
Cowboys 18 def. Roosters 12
The result of the round. The Cowboys, after a horror R10 loss at home to the Eels, came to Suncorp and beat the Roosters 18-12 in a tight contest that swung on a fourth-quarter intercept try. Tom Dearden was the matchwinner; Reuben Cotter dominated the middle. The Cowboys to 7-4 at #7 with the form arrow firmly pointing up; the Roosters drop to 11th-ranked equivalent on the ladder and the structural concerns about their forward depth are getting louder.

Storm Continue Rebound — 34-8 Over Eels
Storm 34 def. Eels 8
The Storm’s R10 win over the Tigers wasn’t a one-off — they backed it up with a 26-point Saturday-afternoon blowout of Parramatta at Suncorp. Cameron Munster was back to his best, Harry Grant rolled big numbers from dummy half, and the Storm’s middle dominated. Melbourne sit 13th at 4-7 (% 97.18) but their R10-R11 wins are the most important wins of their season — both came against weakened opposition and both built the percentage back up. The Storm aren’t out of the finals race yet. The Eels (4-7, 15th) are now genuinely on the bottom-three watch and the season is teetering.

Sea Eagles Crush Wests Tigers in 46-Point Blowout
Sea Eagles 46 def. Wests Tigers 18
The biggest margin of the round. Manly came out of the gate flying and never let the Tigers into the contest, kicking eight tries to three in a 46-18 demolition. Tom Trbojevic scored a double; Daly Cherry-Evans orchestrated four try assists. The Sea Eagles now sit in the four-team chase for top-four protection and look like the most-likely side to push the second top-four spot. Tigers drop to a profile that confirms their bottom-three status.

Match-by-Match Review — Magic Round 2026
Sharks 38 def. Bulldogs 16
The Friday-evening opener. Cronulla’s middle dominated; Nicho Hynes was outstanding in the halves; Briton Nikora rolled big numbers across the four corners. The Sharks lift back into the top-eight at 7-4 with a structurally sound performance against a Bulldogs side that’s been slipping. The Dogs (5-6) now look beatable for the chasing pack.

Dolphins 32 def. Rabbitohs 10
The Dolphins’ hot run continued — 32-10 over the Rabbitohs at Magic Round, with the Phins now at 8-3 and a four-from-five run. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow scored two; Wayne Bennett’s side continues to look like a top-four contender. Souths drop to 6-5 — still competitive but the percentage damage is mounting.

Knights 36 def. Titans 12
Newcastle’s hot defensive run continues — third straight 24+ point margin. The Knights (7-4 at #6) now have the most-consistent form line in the middle of the ladder. Kalyn Ponga was again the matchwinner with two tries and two try assists. The Titans (3-8) remain firmly in the bottom three.

Ladder Implications: Panthers Untouchable, Warriors Push for Top 2
Magic Round 2026 didn’t reshuffle the ladder so much as cement the tiers. Penrith remain first at 10-1 with a massive +203 points differential — already a “minor premiership profile” before Origin. The Warriors sit second at 8-3 and look the most likely to push Penrith. The chasing pack of Dolphins, Sea Eagles and one of Cowboys/Knights/Sharks all look top-six-bound. Storm’s rebound is the most-important development from the round — they’ve moved up from rock-bottom of the chase to 13th at 4-7, still alive in the finals race.
Below the line, the wooden-spoon order is starting to firm: Eels (4-7, 15th), Tigers and Titans (both with poor records and tough run home schedules) are now the bottom-three watch. Build your own top-eight with our NRL Ladder Predictor.
