On a soggy Friday night at the SCG, Adelaide shattered Sydney’s unbeaten home record with a disciplined 16-point win. The Crows’ pressure and clean ball use in the wet proved the difference, lifting them into the top five and denting the Swans’ bid to hold second spot outright.

Dockers survive a scare to stay top

Fremantle 15.13 (103) def. Port Adelaide 11.9 (75)

The flag favourites trailed by two goals at half-time at Adelaide Oval before flicking the switch, kicking five goals in 13 minutes to open the third quarter and blowing the game open. Jye Amiss bagged four, with Josh Treacy and Michael Frederick adding three apiece as Fremantle ran out 28-point winners to stay two games clear on top of the ladder.

A spirited West Coast raced out to a 21-point first-quarter lead at Optus Stadium, but the reigning contenders steadied. Brisbane turned the contest with a six-goal third quarter and pulled clear for a 24-point win that keeps its grip on a top-four berth.

Demons roar back after a rough start

Melbourne 13.14 (92) def. North Melbourne 11.10 (76)

North Melbourne flew out of the blocks at Marvel Stadium, slamming on three goals inside the opening six minutes to build an early 25-point buffer. But Melbourne steadied, worked its way back into the contest and pulled away late for a 16-point win that keeps the Demons locked on 48 points inside the top six.

On a cold night at the MCG, Collingwood ground out a 21-point win over Carlton to stretch its winning run to five and firm up a spot inside the eight. For the Blues it was another chance gone, their season sliding as finals slip further from view.

Hawthorn 18.14 (122) def. Richmond 6.16 (52)

Hawthorn was ruthless at the MCG, thrashing Richmond by 70 points to keep third spot warm. Forwards Mitch Lewis and Nick Watson booted five goals each as the Hawks dominated every key metric, winning the disposal count by more than 100 and the inside-50s, tackles and marks with ease.

Ladder implications

Fremantle remain two clear games ahead on top at 16-2, with Sydney still holding second despite the SCG stumble. The logjam is at four to six, where Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne are all level on 48 points and separated only by percentage, while Hawthorn’s draw keeps them third on 50. The eight is tight too: the Western Bulldogs (44) and Collingwood (42) hold the final two spots, with Geelong ninth and only percentage from making a charge.
