Western Bulldogs vs Gold Coast Preview

We head to Mars Stadium in Ballarat for the Round 2 clash and the Western Bulldogs are favourites in the market, despite going down in Round 1 to Melbourne by 35 points.

Luke Beveridge’s side stayed in touch for most of the game before the margin blew out late. There were some familiar names that featured in their best with Marcus Bontempelli, Tom Liberatore and Adam Treloar finding plenty of the ball.

The battle between the respective midfield units shapes as an interesting one. Gold Coast have been brilliant in this area, dominating the clearances in both games with Matt Rowell leading the way, while Sam Flanders and Noah Anderson combined for 70 disposals in the Suns six-point win over Adelaide in Round 2.

Damien Hardwick has made it a perfect start as their new coach and the Suns also feature in the opening round with a win over Hardwick’s former side, Richmond.

They represent value in the market but will just need to take their form on the road for the first time. This week’s match at Ballarat will be the third between the two sides at the venue and the Bulldogs have won the two so far. They have won seven of 11 at the venue.
