Betting on the NRL has come a long way. These days, online bookmakers offer a huge range of markets, giving you odds on just about every possible outcome.
Want to back a team to win? Easy. Prefer to predict the halftime leader or the final margin? No problem. You can even bet live as the action unfolds—reacting to every bone-crunching tackle, pinpoint kick, and defence-splitting pass in real-time.
And that’s just the start. From the here and now to the long game, you can also bet on Grand Final futures, individual awards like the Dally M Medal, and even novelty markets.
Of course, with so many options, it always pays to shop around as bookmakers regularly offer money-back specials, boosted odds, and other promos, giving you extra value on your bets each weekend.
Below, we’ve listed the most popular rugby league markets you can bet on.
The Grand Final Winner bet allows you to predict which team will win the NRL Grand Final at the end of the season. Bet on your chosen team before or during the season, and if they lift the trophy, you win your bet. For the full Grand Final hub — date, venue, odds, betting markets and recent winners — see our NRL Grand Final tips and odds page.
Head-to-head betting is the easiest way to have a punt on the NRL. Simply select who you think will win the game, and if they emerge victorious, so do you. For instance, if the Sydney Roosters are playing the Canberra Raiders, you can bet on the Roosters to win or the Raiders to win. If you pick the Roosters and they win, you win the bet.
Line betting is when one team is given a handicap to make the game more even. For example, if the Penrith Panthers are expected to win comfortably against the Gold Coast Titans, they might be given a 10-point handicap. This means you can bet on the Panthers to win by more than 10 points, or the Titans to stay within 10 points of the Panthers.
Margin betting is about predicting the winner and the exact margin. If you think the South Sydney Rabbitohs will beat the Cronulla Sharks by 1-12 points, you’d bet on that margin. Alternatively, if you think the Rabbitohs will win by 13 points or more, you’d pick the 13 margin.
This bet allows you to predict who will be leading at both half-time and full-time. For a match between the Sydney Roosters and the Melbourne Storm, you can bet on outcomes like:
Sydney Roosters / Sydney Roosters
Sydney Roosters / Melbourne Storm
Melbourne Storm / Sydney Roosters
Draw / Sydney Roosters
You can mix and match the results for half-time and full-time, giving you plenty of possibilities.
This bet lets you predict which player will score the first try of the game. For instance, in a match between the Sydney Roosters and the Melbourne Storm, you can bet on Joseph Suaalii to score first. If the centre crosses the white line before anyone else, your bet is a winner.

Same Game Multi betting has become one of the most popular ways to bet on the NRL. An SGM lets you combine multiple selections from the same match into one bet with multiplied odds.
Example: In a match between Penrith and Melbourne, you might combine Panthers to win, Nathan Cleary to score a try, and the game to go over 40.5 total points — all in one bet at longer odds.
Most Australian bookmakers offer NRL SGM builders with player props including try scorers, tackle counts, run metres and kick metres. For same game multi tips and our dedicated NRL multi tips page, check our weekly NRL SGM picks.
Our top-rated NRL bookmakers for Australian punters — competitive head-to-head and line markets, deep same game multi builders, NRL futures and reliable apps. For full operator comparisons, market depth and the best NRL betting promotions, see our best NRL betting sites in Australia guide.

The 2026 NRL Grand Final is scheduled for Sunday, October 4th, 2026, at Accor Stadium in Sydney. Kick-off is expected at 7:30 pm (AEDT).
Brisbane Broncos are the defending premiers, having defeated Melbourne Storm 26–22 in the 2025 Grand Final to break Penrith Panthers’ four-year premiership streak (2021–2024). For the full Grand Final hub including past winners, current odds, Clive Churchill Medal market and betting on the day, see our NRL Grand Final tips, odds & predictions page.

The 2026 Telstra Premiership is four rounds in, and the early form guide is already throwing up plenty of talking points. Here is how the season is shaping up.
Penrith Panthers (4-0): No surprises here. The Panthers have opened the season with a perfect record and a staggering percentage of 467%, scoring 140 points and conceding just 30 through four rounds. Ivan Cleary’s side looks as dominant as ever as they chase a record-extending seventh consecutive Grand Final appearance.
Warriors (3-1): The Warriors have been the surprise of the early rounds, sitting second on the ladder with 134 points scored. After years of underperformance, they look like genuine finals contenders in 2026.
Wests Tigers (3-1): The Tigers are another side turning heads. With three wins from four starts and 112 points scored, Wests Tigers appear to have finally rebuilt after several lean seasons at the bottom of the table.
Bulldogs (3-1): Canterbury’s resurgence continues into 2026. Sitting fourth with a tight defensive record (64 points conceded), the Bulldogs have built their early-season form on a miserly defence that is winning them close games.
Rabbitohs (3-1): South Sydney have bounced back emphatically, sitting fifth on the ladder with 100 points scored through four rounds. After a difficult 2025, the Bunnies look rejuvenated.
Panthers chasing history: Penrith are on track for what would be an unprecedented seventh straight Grand Final. Through four rounds, their +110 points differential is the best in the competition by a country mile.
Dragons winless: St George Illawarra are the only team without a win after four rounds (0-4). While their percentage of 60% suggests they have been competitive in patches, the Dragons desperately need a turnaround before the season slips away entirely.
Storm’s slow start: Melbourne sit at 2-2, well below their usual standards. Despite a healthy percentage of 194%, they have been inconsistent and will need to find their groove quickly in a congested middle of the ladder.

How do NRL betting odds work?
NRL betting odds represent the likelihood of an outcome occurring. In Australia, odds are typically displayed in decimal format. Lower odds mean a higher probability of winning (but lower returns), while higher odds indicate a bigger potential payout on less likely outcomes.
What are the most popular NRL betting markets?
The most popular NRL bets include head-to-head (match winner), line betting (handicap), first tryscorer, anytime tryscorer, total points over/under, and same game multis. Futures markets like the NRL Premiership outright and Dally M Medal are also extremely popular.
What is NRL tipping?
NRL tipping involves predicting the winner of each match in a given round. Tipping competitions are hugely popular in Australia, with millions of fans entering comps through workplaces, social groups and bookmaker platforms each season.
Where can I find free NRL expert tips?
BettingPro.com.au provides free NRL expert tips and predictions for every round of the Telstra Premiership. Our team of NRL tipsters analyse form, stats, injury reports and head-to-head records to deliver well-researched picks for every match.
Can I bet on NRL live during a match?
Yes, many bookmakers offer live betting on NRL games. In Australia, live bets must be placed over the phone due to regulations. Markets shift in real-time based on the match action, giving punters the opportunity to react to what is happening on the field.
When does the 2026 NRL season finish?
The 2026 Telstra Premiership season runs from March through to October. The regular season consists of 27 rounds, followed by a four-week finals series. The Grand Final is scheduled for Sunday, October 4th, 2026, at Accor Stadium in Sydney.

The best NRL betting markets include head-to-head, line betting, try scorers, winning margins, and half-time/full-time doubles.
Head-to-head betting is the simplest type of bet where you choose which team you think will win the match. If your chosen team is victorious after 80 minutes, your bet wins.
Line betting, or handicap betting, involves giving one team a handicap to make the match more competitive. For example, if the Sydney Roosters are favorites, they might be handicapped by 10 points, and you can bet on them to win by more than 10 points or the underdog to stay within the handicap.
Winning margin betting requires you to predict not just the winner but by how many points they will win.
Yes, you can place bets on long-term outcomes such as the Grand Final Winner, Player of the Year, or team to win the Premiership.
